If I buy a KCA 420i like this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180865084040? ... 1423.l2649

Will I be able to conect an Ipod? or do I need something else as well?

My car is a 2005 with Nav.

I think you need an Intravee too?

Correct. You are missing the box that is translating the sound to the ibus, so Intravee is required as well.

the E53 comms package communicates with its devices on what's called the iBus protocol. the KCA 420i is an alpine device, and communicates on an Alpine protocol called AI-Net.

the popular solution to get apple devices hooked onto an e53 is by connecting an Intravee II into a KCA 420i, which in turn connects into the apple device.

the Intravee converts iBus commands to/from AI-Net. the KC 420i converts AI-Net commands to/from Apple.

u need both to connect an ipod or an apple device to a 2005 E53.

hope that explains.

I tried waiting... Because of how good they are they hold there money. I ended up getting a new intravee from toysinyourcar.com for £150ish and a KCA-420i off eBay for £50ish. My cd changer was working but any little bump and the CDs would jump and skip. I'd assume a new cd changer would be £100+ off eBay so it was worth it to me. Also I got a quote for the iPod retrofit from the dealers and it was more than going the intravee route. You don't get the extra features either with the oem from BMW either
