NAV Postcode Destination

So my Mk4 Nav has the v32 firmware in it (I think - it identifies itself as 4/1-02). And from what I read, v32 should have the facility to input the required destination by specifying a postcode. But I don't see postcode input available anywhere. Am I being thick? Is it hidden away somewhere?

Thanks.

Does it not go in the Town/City area? I'm scratching my head trying to remember where I used to input it... :scratchhead:

v32 should take the firmware to 100.
Doesn't the post code go in the city field?
You can only have 7 digit post code entry (on a different screen altogether) if the nav disk itself was written with post code data.

Yes, it is the City / pcode field :)

Only 5 digits / letters though, which always got me close enough.

no you can enter the full post code.

in destination input, go to 'information on the destination' or something of that sorts. and then enter the post code.

if that's confusing (which i'm sure it is), that's cos this is from memory, i'll get u the exact steps from mine later if u want.

or pm me, i must be having hte user guide for v32 somewhere (cant' find it right now, in my office comp)

You are talking about a non OEM disk though.

Yes, apparently it's info on location > travel > uk postcodes (if disc has had codes added as points of interest). I wouldn't know about this though as my disc is OEM

Ahhh - you I need a non-OEM disc to make this work.

For some reason best known to BMW, they decided not to bother including the fact that the UK has a 7-character postcode limit and so OEM discs don't support it. Despite numerous and loud complaints from UK customers, and no doubt oodles of space on the DVD, it was never implemented. I'm not even sure it's been done on the latest cars.

I just send the address to the car from a PC via Google (you need a Google account and current Assist sub) if I am planning the journey ahead of time.

i can't believe this - in today's day and age in a modern bmw and in a high end car like the X6 - you can't enter a full postcode??

I did once read an article that suggested that as we are the only country in the world which uses this postcode format, it was not 'cost effective' to make a UK only nav disc. Given that our maps are part of the wider European map database this might be the case.

I don't know how much space it needs on a DVD, but the new cars have an 80GB hard drive for the nav data - and that destroys the case for not having the data, you just add it as an additional file.

It may have something to do with the exorbitant cost of licensing the postcode database from the UK Post Office too though. When I worked for the UK Gov't, the Post Office/Royal Mail wanted a very large sum of money for a copy and the regular updates.
