Hey guys , my car is do an oil change soon , as only one of the service lights as gone off , I'm thinking of doing it myself. As I used to do to my other cars.. Now , wat oil should I use ? The car is 3.0d 06 with 33.000 miles on clock , and what else should I look at or change while I'm doing it. Air filter? Diesel filter? Oil filter?
I presume some of u guys do it yourselfs so just looking for guidance . I ain't paying £70 /h at my BMW dealer for an oil change :P
Thanks in advance
Aldo

Do you mean you have one (green) service light left on? If so around 3,000 miles to go. If four greens then 15,000 to go..

Oil is Castrol Edge 5W-30 that meets BMW LL04 and ACEA 'C' specs. There should be a ECP discount code floating about somewhere on here too... it will be around £40 for four litres (less with the ECP Code) and you'll need two packs

You should certainly change your oil filter at the same time, and if you haven't already done so then an air filter is probably a worthy change after 33K miles too. Fuel and Pollen filters optional. You shouldn't have to worry about the crankcase breather as the 2006 model should havE the later vortex type already. If you have the old foam 'bog roll' type then change that too (£40 plus VAT from a Dealer) as it will reduce the risks of blocked breather issues killing your turbo.

£70/hr is pretty cheap for a BMW Dealer. Ours is nearly double that!

I've bought on this deal a couple of times now but when ECP are running their 30% off, Edge comes out at £26.99 delivered.

Have you thought about the service history being kept up, I know a lot of people do their own work on cars, myself included, but when it comes to getting the all important stamp in the book then maybe you should consider just getting the garage to do the basic oil service and you can do the rest of the work yourself.
I know you might say that a stamp in the book doesn't mean that the car will be any better than one without a stamp, but at least it would show any potential future owner that at least you had bothered to follow the service schedule, and had proof of such.

Slightly tongue in cheek......and weirdfish has a valid point

You could get a stamp made up with 'Aldo's Motors' on it.....

You could use Sanj Motors too......You've had the Cowboys, now try the Indians.....

Make sure you use a decent make of potato though, otherwise you can't get it clear enough, ( or is that the point ).

Some of you will be too young to remember the John Bull Printing Outfit but I had 1 when I was a lad.

:lol::lol::lol:

I know that one unscrupulous owner once traded a car in to one even less scrupulous trade place, and managed to scan a couple of previous dealer stamps and printed in the correct places to ensure a full history.:-?

My local Indy BM specialist is doing my oil service in the next couple of weeks before we tow down into France. He charges is 100 quid. Worth the stamp in the book and also spares me getting covered in crap too!

Hey guys thanks for the replys and to be honest u made me giggle after a really bad day I had today . For the inspection I'll take it up to the dealer , previous owner had it done in a Indy garage .. But the service book as got no stamps , so I don't no what or where it has done to it since he brought the car. An thinking about it I should be concern about that . My friend owns a garage an he will stamp for me. But I think I'm going to get in touch with the garage where I got the car and c if I can get the previous owners number to find out history' on car. Still got a 1000 miles to do before oil change as it states on the sticker by the door .

My other issue with the car is the passenger front window , if I fully open it , I can't close it . It gets stuck on the seal and I have to use a small screw driver to tilt the glass a bit so he can come up.. Any ideas of wat it might be ?

Thanks again

And something I just remember, I'm missing two rubber grips from the side steps , anywhere I can't get them apart from dealer?
