Might give in and sell the X5

Hi guys

Just looking for opinions really

As you may have gathered of the 40 or so cars I have had the X5 is the one I love the most. I'm chuffed when I look at it, when I drive it and when I talk about it but the suspension issue I have had from the third day of ownership is taking its toll. The dealer a few weeks ago said he would refund my money and I said no as I love it but now after chasing the problem for months I might see if the offer still stands. This is a hard decision and really upset me earlier but maybe it's not meant to be.

After mogsyman posted about the 535d I'm tempted to cutting losses and go that route with a touring. Opinions welcome one thing holding me back is this forum as its the best forum on tinternet by far

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the X, are you sure the issues can't be resolved?

If you were to go down the 535d route I can assure you, you won't be disappointed....however, it's not an X5!

If you do buy a 535d here's my 2p worth of 'must haves'

Try to buy an LCI (built from June 07). They have a much better interior, more BHP, better fuel consumption, better gear box. LED lights at the rear with side LED's front and rear.
Sports Auto Transmission (SAT). Flappy paddles but when you're in Sport it gives you really quick changes. I drove pretty much all the time in Sports and used the paddles, that's one thing I miss on my Porsche.
Media, iPod etc then comes as standard and works really well. Sat nav is dated but better than the X5 and does the job.
Lights, adaptive if possible (can't remember the pack Zenons came with but they are a must)
Comfort seats (aside from nicer seats with greater electric movement, this gives you additional extras such as folding wing mirrors when the car is locked)
19" wheels. These finish the car off, but can be buckled easily if you hit a pothole (only available on the tourer from about '09 I think)
Sun protection glass
Through load with ski bag

I also had extended lights as an option
Lane departure (comes as standard and a complete waste of BMW's money!)

That's all I can think of for the moment but will post again if my memory comes back to me!

Can you get a HUD on it?  I know some love, some hate, but I think it's useful especially with nav data so you don't need to look away if you missed it.

If you can get a late 2009 model that should have the later nav/comms system too.

Really sorry to hear of your X5 woes, i suppose i can concur as i went from a 4.8is to a 5 series touring only the 520d m sport though, i do miss the high driving position & i like you loved the look of the 4.8 & obviously the sound is awesome.

The benefits in my opinion of the 5 series is less weight so i think its a little more involving to drive & if you got a 535d you would have the performance to match the nice steering feel & nice cornering that the five gives you. I still lust after an X5 because i think its just on of those great cars, but the 5 series is a lovely drive & i find it a bit easier getting my labs in the boot with the lower sill aswell.

If i had another touring i would certainly go for a bigger powerplant than i did with mine & i dont think you would be too disappointed with a 535d at all, good luck with your decision making & i hope it sorts itself out either way for you.

You can get HUD.

But going back to the X, speak to Jason. He might be able to resolve it if you can be without it for a few days.

As has been said, HUD is available but was limited with info given.

I'd have had that had it not been about £1400, but would be available on a used at probably no additional cost over a similar car without it.

I've tried my heart out with the X5 regarding the self levelling. Ive changed level sensor, compressor, control module, valve block, pressure sensor and relay. Also tried connections etc but still it's playing up. I'm so torn with what to do
