Hi people, my first post so take it easy on me. Iv always wanted a x5 so bit the bullet and sold my golf gt tdi and bought a 2002 4.4 sport in black. I must say what a machine it is, the sound of the v8 is to die for!!!!!!! The x5 is a little bit heavier on fuel but it's wort it ;) .

It needs a service (inspection 1), iv rung a indy near me and they said £250+vat plus micro filter if it needs one. Im thinking that 250 is a bit steep so were can I get it done. I live in Rochdale near Manchester.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi and Welcome.  Nice looking car....

£250 for an Insp1 is pretty close to the Main Dealer price, and these beasts are luxury cars with the appropriate Dealer prices to match!  I think my one quotes about £30 more than that.  A large chunk of it might be the oil, so it may be worth seeing if they'll drop the price if you source the oil?  There's usually an ECP Discount code giving about 25% off floating about on the General area of the forum.  You usually need two 4-litre packs of the appropriate Castrol Edge - probably be 5W30 fully synth for yours (same for most of us).

Hi There, I'm a new member too, just joined today, i live in the Bury area, not far from you in Rochdale. I find the best way for service deals is, buy your own oil and service parts from Partco, or Andrew Page, fit the simple bits like the cabin filters etc, and then take all the parts to your garage and ask how much labour would they charge to fit the other parts and change the oil and fill in the service book.
I did this with my previous 5 series and it worked out very well.
I used a BMW  indie in Waterfoot near Bacup for a battery last year, he is ex "Williams BMW tech. nice guy, ant remenber the name of garage, but thet are on the net.
:)

Thanks for all the info people. I'm thinking of doing the service my self only because I will be keeping the car for a good wile so not to bothered about the service stamp. I'm going to do inspection 1 and 2 I think. Then I know that's it all been done at the same time and it will save me £100's.

Nice X and quality plate.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty consider doing the service yourself. Get a scanner to reset service intervals and all sorted.

Save a fortune too.

Welcome, that is nice car, blacks a pain to keep clean though, get the car Claybar'd and finshed with a decent wax, it will help remove water stains from the rain and tree crap that...well falls out of those trees! Great plate....I like it.

Thanks for the info guys. I decided to do it myself. Got the oil, filter and air filter from ECP for £77, then went to my mates body shop were he has a ramp and did it in a hour or so  :P .

If the weather stays ok this weekend it's going to be clay bared , polished and waxed.

Next job then is remap in a few weeks so I can get a bit better mpg than 15.5 well the wife can!!!!!!!
