After months and months of researching V10 Touaregs, Audi RS6's and S4's getting ready for child number 2 to fit in our family car, i saw a local advert for an X5 for sale, popped in to see it and bought it that day.  Hurrah!

Now doing my research retrospectively it didn't have very many of the [Sticky] 'Options list', it has very OTT 22'' wheels and the ride is a bit bumpy at low speeds - but I LOVE IT!!!  It's quick and nimble for its size, got a great riding position, easy to drive and feels very special.

Since buying, i have had it checked over by a very nice man on a mission from warranty direct in order to get it covered.  He used to be one of the AA inspectors, lived locally and gave it an extra 1/2 hour check over for me and luckily gave it a super clear bill of heath, phew!

So, no doubt i will be asking questions soon enough...after i have read all i can from the previous discussions.

One initial observation was that the sound quality from the stereo seems a bit flat.  i have tried to have a quick read of the forum to find what my options are, but perhaps someone could quickly answer if a simple change of speakers could help?  I don't need Amazing sound quality or volume (i can't afford it!), but i would like more clarity in the sound. Thanks.

Welcome aboard. Certainly looks clean. You planning to keep or remove the 22's?

Just replacing speakers can make a marked improvement to the sound. Can you describe what element the system is lacking as this will help to provide a course of action.

Yes, its very clean, more or less unmarked, has 57k miles on the clock and i think (& hope) i have been very lucky.

Yes, i will be keeping the 22's on the car, they are spotless, came with brand new tyres and personally i love the look of them .  The bumpiness disappears when i get it on the motorway!

Yes on the sound, i think the best way i can describe it is it seems muffled.  The treble doesn't seem very clear to me (even when turned up) and the bass is also lacking - the clarity of the treble is most noticeable at lower volumes - when i turn it up loud it doesn't sound too bad.  But compared to the sound quality in my standard is300, it feels very flat.

Hmm, my descriptions are not great!  Hopefully you know what i mean?

A very clean looking example you have there, and the wheels look ok too.

Do you have one or two speakers in the rear doors? The basic X stereo is not known for its audiophile qualities

Think you have the standard 6 speaker setup so the sound is pants. Speaker replacement can help but you still have the standard amp driving them so, small improvements only. There is an expensive BSW mids setup you can get and they help (with a standard setup).

Rims look ok too.

Hi, welcome from one newbie to another. Similar to my X5 although yours is a bit more "pimped" looking on those wheels! The 4.4 is a great engine and not bad mpg return for engine size, X5 weight and permanent 4wd. I waited until I had owned for 6 months or so, once confirmed that I was happy with it I went for lpg conversion. Makes it almost a sensible choice
