All, looking to replace my front brakes (well the old man will be doing the work) and have a couple of questions.

I'm firstly split between Pagid & Eicher.  Any views?

Next, this might be a really stupid question, the pads state per axle.  Not being mechanically minded, would that mean there is enough pads for both wheels, or would I need to get 2 lots, 1 set for each wheel?

Also, would I need to be sensors?  is there anything I would need to do on the onboard computer if the sensors are replaced? such as resetting somehting, etc.?

Finally, are any special tools needed (say unique to BWM's)?

The OEM fitted pads are either Pagid or Textar if memory serves.  An 'axle set' should in my view be a full set of four pads.

If your wear sensors have not been tripped then you can carry on using them, but if tripped then you do need to replace.  From similar discussions on the forum there are no special tools required or actions on the computers

Instructions for the front do mention a special tool, but no one who has done it on here has ever mentioned one.

You have a front and rear axle so yes there will be 4 pads per axle in the box

Cheers guys, sensors havent been tripped, so wont need to replace them.  I knew a car has a rear and front axle, but when i was looking at the webpage, something planted that seed of doubt.

there are no special tools required as in BMW only, but you will need a 7mm allen key to remove the caliper.

One last question, if the wear sensor has gone, where is the message displayed? on the on-board PC or the engine management warning light/ as this has recently come on.

If memory serves you get a pad wear warning light, and if you have the on board computer then 'Check Control' will say something like 'check brake linings' on the display in front of you.  If you don't ave the OBC High option then I don't know what warning other than the pad wear light will appear.  You can test the check control by pressing the right hand button on the instrument binnacle - if my memory is correct.. :-[

It's all changed on idrive cars, so I' trying to remember........

The engine management light should not come on for that.  If you are approaching MOT time, that engine light needs fixing as it's now an automatic fail.

Cheers, I havent seen a check break text message on the OBC, so guess sensors are fine.

Just wriggle them out gently from the pads (only 1 sensor at the front and 1 at the rear).

Don't know if you've ordered your pads yet but I've just bought these OEM front pads for £60 delivered on eBay.  There's one set left.

Nope.  1 on the front passenger side the other on the rear drivers side

Unless an issue has arisen then braking will be even across the axle so in theory the pads and discs will wear the same hence only one sensor required per axle.
