Hi guys
I have a 3.0 D Sport 2006. when I bought the car, it had a white souround to the steering wheels  3 spoke inner.
I believe this is quite common, it is where your thumbs touch the inner boss.
It doesent look that bad, but if there is a quick fix, IE paint technique i would give it a shot.
What I dont want to do is make it worse by bodging it up.
Many Thanks
I must learn how to post pictures !!!!

How to for piccies here.  Sanj is such a star isn't he.... :bigthanx:

This peeling issue is well known and various folks have tried various paint fixes.  The OEM coating is a rubber paint iirc

Iirc, the oe isn't too expensive so you could try stripping the one you have and painting it after using a suitable plastic primer, and if that fails, you could afford a new one;)

Think you can get a rubberised paint in a rattle can too.

£30 for the trim - just DIY fit.

Or Plasti-kote and such like rubber paints out there. Less than £10 a can.

I'd just buy a new centre-piece and be done with it.

Thanks Guys
I will get a new trim from the dealers, if i can find the part number to order over the phone, failing that I will call in one day next week.
Just have to figure out how to remove it without setting the airbag off in my face !!!!

I'll get you that later tonight. I have the receiPt from my order.

And take the fuse out before removing the airbag, plus don't start the car until its reconnected!

Sorry, can't find the receipt but try this with the parts department: 32306778412

And use this 'How To' to get the bugger off! Brilliant guide by x555.

Thanks for all the info Guys, and to Sanj for the brill link

I have just ordered one from Stratstone BMW off Ebay £35 inc del, loosened torq screws ok, (as a test) will pull the airbag fuse and rermove the airbag when the new bit arrives.
Its not worth messing with paint when new part is only that price, and also guaranteed for 2 years.

Good man, next time try Cotswolds for price comparison as they like to discount "forum" members!

Number is: 01432 375563 for the parts department.

HI Guys
new plastic trim arrived yesterday, pulled fuse 44, popped air bag forward with a screwdriver via the slots on the rear of the steering wheel.
pulled away old trim detached button controls, fitted new trim and refitted torq screws, sorted 10 mins work,
well worth doing.
Thanks for the help / info.
