OK Fellow XDrivers, thinking of fitting some new (aftermarket??) front and rear end lights,
(LED units?, xenon? Angle eye?).
Yeah I know it's down to personal taste, choice and style, But what have you done, or what would you do to your X5 e53?
What' a BIG FAT YES  and a Definite NO NO....... :noexpression: Open to suggestions and photos if poss.?

I'll be watching this topic closely as I also need to replace my front and rear lights my rear ones are really badly hazed/scratched as for the front Ones I would prefer to have some identical to the facelift e53 but struggling to find some in the pre-facelift shape

I've got the DEPO lights on my prefacelift. I love the way they look. Also had them wrapped to make them smoked both on front headlights  and rear taillights. At this second i am in states so no way to take pics of thrm since the X is sitting at the Airport but if you would like close up pics i can get them after my return. I should have some pics    Here if you care to take a look. 

The crystal and smoked crystal (oem look and colour) look nice, if anything look a tad nicer than oem, I have lamin-x'd lights all round, definate NO NO NO is the all clear\lexus style rears if you fit these you realy should be shot!

Unless you then paint the car shocking pink of course. >:D >:D

These are the one's on mine. Not so cherry anymore! Back to OEM colour and look almost original, which is the way I like em.

Are these those NO NO NO rear lights?

If anyone could also post pics of what you have fitted that would be a great help also.
What are the standard fitment headlights to the E53 4.6is 52-plate? (Halogen, Xenon, etc etc....?)

I have a 52 reg 4.6is as well. Mine had the oem hid

yes there the the ones that should carry the death sentance for fitting lol

Those are exactly the same as mine without the clear lens. Even have the 3 'bars' that mine have - make FA difference btw!

Stick as close to OEM and you'll be fine.

See quite a few sets of smoke LED rear lights I like but they are State Side (U.S.) does anyone know if these are OK to use in the UK?

Technically anything you put on a car in the UK must be E-approved.  I say technically because unless an MoT tester realises it's not suitable then you won't have an issue.  The only others who might have an interest are your insurers (it's a modification), or a VOSA vehicle inspector.

However given the number of odd looking and extreme mods that the Saxo/Corsa/pug 106 modding yoof brigade get away with, I would hazard you'll be fine.

Not sure if they are to everyone's taste but I like the idea of the UHP led as daytime running lights.

I've noticed you can get LED rear lights in the states with the reversing/reflector the whole length of the light:

I've also noticed only the tail/stop lights are LED you would need to get LED indicator bulbs if you wanted it to match too.
