Delimit 4.6iS X5 ??

I am still looking for my perfect Estoril blue 4.6iS, and while keeping an eye on all adverts I came across one that had listed under its specifications

"Factory de-limit"

I know that some of the non-sport E53 X5's were limited due to their tyres, but at a qouted (alledged) top speed of 149mph for the 4.6iS I always thought that, that was the top speed due to the physics of pushing such a brick shaped car through the air.

Am I wrong, were they 'limited' to 149mph as this sellers advert would suggest?

What would the de-limited speed be, if it does exist?

I can say i had mine upto 158 in germany. I had the gps showing 255km and the fuel gauge was moving pretty fast to the left side pretty quick as well
That was my second attempt.

They will head over the 155 even for a bus.

Thank you, but just for clarification:

kkodal78 does that mean yours was de-restricted and therefore you can do 155+ once de-restricted
OR
They will do 155+ anyway, so they do not need to be de-restricted and BMW just say they only do 149

The limiter might be like the one on many of the fast RS, Audi,s that do 180MPH :)

Never fancied pushing the X5 much over 100, it starts drinking fuel very fast  :o

Not sure if previous owners did anything to it but all i had done was getting mine remapped by jason. All i know is that i was able to speed that high and still had room for redline.

Remaps tend to remove limiter too.

I am sure I read they were limited to 130 but  if delimited would go fatser.

Usually the Sports had this option rather than SE per brochure so then 3.0 petrol and 4.4 sport would go slightly faster as a result 134 for the 3.0 and 149 for the 4.4 doesn't mention the 4.6 in facelift brochure but assume similar performance to 4.8 at 153

The 4.6 became 4.8 at facelift which is why it isn't listed.

what was the main reason of getting rid of the 4.6 engine in the first place?why the switch to 4.8?
sorry for de-railing the thread but just out of curiosity

GraemeX5, the non-sport were restricted due to the tyres they were given at manufacture, Sports were given 'sportier' tyres which were designed for the higher speeds.

I dont have a brochure but I dont remember the 4.4 being listed at 149, the 4.6iS was listed at 149, but as I say I dont have a brochure so cant prove or deny that  :)

If your brochure lists the 4.8, then perhaps it is for the facelift models, and not the first run of E53's that I am on about.

Basically I am still not sure if they were restricted to 149 as the one 'safely speeding' driver (kkodal78) has done the deed, but has also had his engine fettled and this may have removed the limiter, if there is one??

Just an evolution when the maximum capacity for the then M52 (4,6) became the updated N62 (4.8 ) engine.

The 30d unit (M57) also changed in capacity at facelift time.  2926 to 2993cc.  It could techically have been called a 29D initially as the size was nearer 2.9 than 3.0.
