Glow Plug Warning/Advise

Just thort I would post my experience with my 2004 3.0d X5 glow plugs for anyone that was thinking of having a go themselves. 3 out of the 6 snapped flush with the head, the result was me having to remove the head as I didn't want to take the risk of anything dropping in the bore. It seems that this problem is not unique to me. It scares me to think of the costs involved if I had to pay a garage to fix this issue, I am lucky in the sence I am a Peugeot technican  ::) so removed and rebuilt the head myself.
If anyone does have this problem and needs to remove the head feel free to contact me and I will give you as much advise as i can. I know there are people who say they can get them out when they snap but i couldn't find anyone locally that filled me with confidence.

On the bright side its all back up and running again now better than ever. Happy in one sense but still annoyed at having to carry out such a big job because of some silly glow plugs.

My car has covered 115k fyi

Hi and welcome to the forum and weld one on fixing the glow plugs, I have seen several similar posts where the glow plugs have broken off when trying to change them

Thanks. Yeh seems to be quite common really. Not a nice thing to happen at all

my scanner has been telling me that my glow plugs 1, 2, and 3 are not working for 3 years now.
the car has always started instantly first turn or the key (summer and winter), the only problem being a puff of white smoke on cold startup.
i've heard before of problems with snapping glow plugs on removal, so i think while the car still starts ok, i will leave that job well alone!

Don't blame you at all mate. The puff of smoke was doing my head in though. Lol
