anybody changed their starter on 3.0d? it "looks" easy from above but ive fallen into that trap before and have the scars on hands to prove!

I use this for doing jobs on my cars, select your car and engine then what you are working on and it gives full instructions

Wasn't too bad a job. The bolts a pretty tight!

You did it ???...  huh,...I gave it a go and just gave up when I realised how awkward it is to get to the top 'torque' bolt. Couldn't get hold of the end of the socket to enter onto the bold AND try to turn the socket handle at the same time ! Very small area between bellhousing and the bulk-head to be able to 'click' the ratchet.
Just gave up after studying the job from in the pit.

Just over an hour I guess so not too bad. Had to do with spanner because as you said no room for socket

That's the other thing - we tried this on Jig's car and got one bolt out. The other was impossible with our tools.

Socket set won't do unless it has the flexible head on it. Better yet is the star-shaped spanners (the one's that are completely circular and turn like a conventional ratchet).

Oh and ideal to get at from underneath - still not an easy job imho.

Had an e12 spanner and bit of copper bar as they were typically BMW tight! Bit of a stretch from above but a hop up helps. I found changing the battery harder to be honest!
