I got him:

Speakers don't work down one side, took the stereo out but the car was still playing audio.

Kevano12 when you say you took the radio out - what did you take out? The screen in the dash at the front? Or the Radio Control Module in the boot of the car, under the compressor next to the battery?

Oh and if you're Swedish, keep the flag Swedish. We'll still respond!  ;)

I understood too  :)

Sounds like the headunit in the dash was unplugged but everything else still plugged in hence sound still being produced. Think possibly an amp issue as only powering one side channel?

i've had the fuse blown on the head unit and the head unit dead but music still comin out of the speakers. wiered at first but then its all logical.

this is because the head unit is only the 'user interface' of the radio/cd/tv/etc. the actual receiver is the BM54 in the boot and that's whats connnected to your speakers. the system can work without the 'user interface'.

as to why one side is probably dead - that's a different problem. depends on whether you have DSP or not.

if you don't have DSP its most likely the receiver/amp BM54 in the boot. its a common problem in these cars.

if you have DSP i have no idea.. cos i don't have DSP

under the spare wheel you have the air compressor.

under that there's the battery, surrounded by an L shaped plastic cover with BMW written on it.

remove that and you will find a whole stash of electronic toys.

There are a bunch of people who can repair, and upgrade the amps in the radio module in the boot. Should be cheaper than trying to get a new radio module.

How many speakers do you have..
6 = powered directly from radio module in boot
10 = Hifi speaker system, powered by an additional booster amp (I believe)

10+Sub (or is it 12+sub?) DSP sound system. The Sub's in the right hand cubby in the boot.

There will be grills in the front even if you don't have speakers in all of them, so the obvious checks are if there are 2 speakers in each back door, and of course the sub.
