Try this site and see what comes back....

http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

And you do mean characters as in AB12345?  I got odd results when mine was new - it came back as a Z4, I mean as if I look like a hairdresser......rugby player yes, but hairdresser.....

Yours being an '04 it should not have that issue.

Richard, while we are on about real.oem, I have looked on there for the foam pad that goes in the boot recess area to secure the tow bar when not fitted but no joy, an ideas?

Yes, I had an OEM tow bar fitted a couple of weeks ago, but would like this to give the bar somewhere to live instead of running around the boot.  It's actually quite a heavy bit of kit.

Cheers for the link.

Hmmm.....that would worry me.

Last suggestion.....BMW VIN Decoder.

After that I would go see a Dealer.....or use the official system via this thread and posts 4 & 6 are the relevant ones.  If this official site comes back with an issue/wrong car then defo go to BMW Dealer...

Nice to know their technology has kept up with the times!!  Taking a wax rubbing......that's different.  I know they regard pictures as being potentially tampered with, but surely they could have some better way than this?
