Spotted this forum, looks good, so Hi :)

:'( Christmas eve, delivering my last Christmas cards, and what do you know, blinded by a land rover with full flood lights on, and next think I know I'm wading deep water in my E39 530d.. Almost made it to, but caught a wave from another car, and cough, klunk.. That's one hydro locked and destroyed engine :(

Spend the next two weeks car hunting until I eventually found a 2006 X5 3.0D sport exclusive in LeMans blue. My first X5, and ya know what, I'm delighted with it. Only bad thing so far.. It does have the panoramic sunroof... and the main big glass rattles a bit. (Going to try a bit of padding, see if that helps).

The engine is running so much better than my E39 did (I had the 184bhp 530d... still with its original factory turbo!), I'm even getting better MPG.. at least according to the computer, and the range I've got on a single tank of diesel seems to indicate the computer is about right. (Got just over 37MPG on the drive home picking up the car)

Anyway.. Hi to everyone.

Graham

Nice looking motor........get some more lights on the front and you can start blinding land rovers but still wade through the water  :)

Nice car, must have been remapped to return that MPG, mine does 32 MPG on a run at best at 80 MPH though.
I believe the panoramic roofs can be troublesome, just dont open it !!! :)
Welcome to the forum, lots of good info on here, and some very experienced members. ( apart from myself, before anyone adds to that )

I do indeed live in the midlands :) A few minutes off the M50, so I can get pretty much anywhere in the midlands easy enough :)

I'll get some more photos done, but here's a quick shot of the interior.

Image

Anyway here's a few more details.

6 Speed auto transmission ( no lurch detected so far )
Comfort glass windscreen + OEM windows tinted/sun protection glass
Folding mirrors that still work (Although passenger one might need attention.. it touches the door when folded)
Dark birch trim, almost black, and nice and glossy.
Lt Beige Nappa sports seats, electric/heated and lumbar. +Heated steering
Bi-Xenon headlights. (Not sure if its normal, but my halogen's come on during main beam as well, but its definitely the OEM Bi-Xenon unit fitted) It's pretty bright, the bi-xenons really light up the trees etc. As my E39 had the old style Xenon, I really didn't want to go back to a plain halogen.. I'm happy with the Bi-Xenon.

Aircon, Digital TV, CD changer with MP3 support, Bluetooth+telematics (but no subscription to Assist of course) 10 speaker hifi system, non DSP, so I guess there is an alpine amp buried in there someplace.

4 cheap tyres :(

The Pana roof is working 100% at the moment, but yeah I noted when I was car hunting there are reliability issues. The drains on the roof appear to be working, and all the electronics are dry :). But I'll be keeping my eye on that. If I can just fix the rattle I'll be happy.

Oh yeah... the front windscreen wash system sucks too. Hopefully blocked filters and easy to fix, cant see any lose piping. I believe the E53 shares the same pumps as my E39, so I will probably raid the E39 for a few "spares"... Like the E39's hedgehog, which was only 6 months old.

When's the meet, would love to come if I can fit it in with my work schedule!

Graham
