not quite sure what type of aerial/antennas you have, may be you could post a photo?
This is the type I have, and don't know exactly where to install it? :noexpression:

Re: Location/Positioning of digital tv aerial/antenna
It's an external magnetic one by the looks of and usually that would go up on top. Not aesthetically pleasing.
The problem with TV signals is that they are broadcast in two modes (horizontal & vertical) and the aerial should be aligned in one mode or the other. Have a look at everyone around you and see how their TV aerials are set up. If flat then horizontal and vice versa.
Digital TV needs a good clean signal and from within a car that's difficult to achieve.
I would start with it on the roof so you can check everything works and then play around with various locations to find a good position. You'll be best moving the car too as what works in one direction, may not in another. If you have good signals you might even be able to hide it inside a bumper.

I didn't even think about checking if the base was magnetised, it is ,
and having a quick look on ebay there's this Amplified DVB-T Digital Antenna Fplug TV Aerial Booster

would this work any better????
OR there's this FV002 Digital Car DVB-T Freeview TV Box Free Remote Aerial USB MMC SD Mpeg 2

would this be any better on it's own or as well as????

Re: Location/Positioning of digital tv aerial/antenna
Make sure it's for the UK DVB-T bands, but yes it will help and the first image is for horizontal polarisation which most 'main transmitters' operate in. The local 'fill in' transmitters tend to be vertical.

Re: Location/Positioning of digital tv aerial/antenna
Does anyone know where the standard gps antenna and radio antenna are located in the E53?
When installing a new GPS antenna; can these be put behind the paneling or does it ideally need to fitted to a window?

Re: Location/Positioning of digital tv aerial/antenna
GPS Antenna for the Facelifted version is in the spoiler over the tailgate upper. It needs to have a clear view of the sky through a window, best being the windscreen. I had a 'climate comfort screen' and fitted a little GPS aerial beside the mirror using a bit of doubled sided sticky foam tape because the screen blocked signals to my Road Angel.
I think the radio aerials are attached like rear screen heater elements to the near side rear window.
