Door Lock (actuator) problem. See video

I have a problem with my drivers door where the door doesn't lock via the central locking.

When the button on the key fob is pushed you can here the actuator move but it goes back to it's original position (see video).

Now this obviously points towards a faulty actuator but I have now bought two second hand ones and I get the exact same response from those as I did my original one!!  :'(

Am i just incredibly unlucky and bought two actuators with the same fault as my original one or is there another cause of this problem?

Just thinking out loud (and not able to test because my front driver side actuator has failed too!), but isn't there some mechanism that stops the lock going down fully if the door is open (or thinks it's open)?

This might explain same behaviour of all 3 units.  It seems really unlikely that they'll all fail the same way but I suppose that might be why they end up on fleabay.

I was thinking along the same lines gchristofi.

Can someone try and activate their central locking with the drivers door open and report your findings please??  :)

I have tried with the passenger door but it locks even with the door open although it makes sense that the drivers door could react differently.

I'm trying to remember but on mine I'm sure that if the driver's door was open then that lock did not move UNTIL the door was closed.  Then the central locking would recycle and all doors were locked.

Thanks Richard.

Hmmm, if that is the case then something is telling my actuator that the door is open when it is in fact closed.

Next question is does anyone know what could be sending the wrong signal to the actuator?

in mine if the drivers door is open the central locking doesn't pull the lock down on that door only. it doesn't recycle through to lock once the door is then closed.

the 'recycle' type of function works for deadlocking the car. that is, if i lock and walk away when any door is open, the locks go down, but the car remains 'unsecured'. then when all the doors are eventually locked the car goes into deadlock mode. exeption to this is the drivers door as that being open prevents that lock from going down.

Thanks jaynana.

So it definitely sounds like something is telling my lock actuator that the door is open which then doesn't allow it to lock.  >:(

Does anyone have a working knowledge of what instructs the door lock actuators to operate?
