Was trying to connect ipod to x5 through rear AV socket last night and it got me thinking. You can connect a video/dvd through the rear sockets - has anyone done this? If so any pictures or recommendations on components used. Would love a small multiregion dvd player to connect.
Thanks
Jon

I was thinking the same.
I was wanting to connect a day/night cam so that my wife could keep an eye on the baby in the back through the front monitor.
Anyone know how this AV Input is selected from the head unit?

Can you not put a mirror on the head restraints in the back and use an interior light with a deep red filter (so the little one sleeps but there's enough light to see) without also blinding the driver. Could use an LED source with red filter film wrapped around it?
I am looking at this problem too, but of course the E71 has no such inputs to play with. Considering one of these
mirrors but the X6 rear head restraints are integral with the seats and it may not stay in place.
Even considered an iPod with FaceTime to an iPad (or other iDevice but not sure how to get the wifi infrastructure working correctly. Might need one of the BMW Hotspot devices now available but I don't want it going out over the mobile phone data allowance.

Hi Richard,
My little mite is now forward facing but when he was rear facing I used that exact same mirror attached to a rear head restraint and it worked a treat.
We now have a small "learners" mirror stuck to the front screen and could lower the wattage of one of the rear map light bulbs to allow it to be used in motion but I'm thinking why not utilise the AV input and allow a clear image on screen, if it will work.
* sorry to hijack OP but I guess we are still on topic

We're not yet started (not long to go though) and will be rear facing for as long as we can. Good to know that mirror works......
* OP sorry, you can have your thread back.....

We used the same mirror in the back of our motors.

The av input is just another channel on the tv module. The input is mono sound plus composite video.
Tv in motion lock still applies so you would need to disable that. Which technically is illegal as the driver must not be able to see any tv while driving.
It's all possible just need the av cable.
