diesel exhaust system

hi to all,

i have a question r/e exhaust mods. i have a 2005 3.0d and while i,m not unhappy with the cars performance......still.  ive considered a re map and understand the process, but im wondering what if any gains can be had by modifying the exhaust, my thoughts are to increase the pipe dia slightly and replace the rear mufflers with something straight thru, while a little more noise will be ok i certainly don't want it sounding like a hoon.

i wonder if the cars basic tune can cope with this or will this immediately require a re programming???

first hand experience comments would be appreciated

thanks for any comments

I had the back boxes removed on my 3.0d and had 2 new pipes made up to exit the rear, like the 4.8's.
It absolutely ruined the low to mid range torque. Even my 18 year old lad said it sounded chavvy.
Bmw made that exhaust  to suit the engine and flow rates.
I would Consider a remap if you want increased power.

Jason (BWChiptune) has done quite a few re-maps of various owners cars on here and I'm pretty sure most of them have not changed the exhaust. I know a few guys did put 'X' pipes on replacing the back boxes and quite a few have gone along the straigh rear exit route as per the petrol variants as to the down turned ones on the 3.0d

Jason may well advise pros and cons of exhaust mods at some stage.

thanks for the input, ive been considering remapping , however i was curious as to the effects of exhaust mods based on all the little Japanese 4 cyl turbo cars i see running around with huge exhaust systems, plus i always thought turbos responded well to reducing back pressure.

i like the sound of a remap, however im unsure as to the long term life of the car especially the transmission, seeing as it already gets a bad wrap.

I have a petrol 4.4, had an eisenmann road exhaust fitted and then a Jason remap, so best of both worlds, gorgeous sounding V8 and benefit of the remap.
Even the wife likes the sound !!
