enough of a charge?

Hi,

I inadvertantly drained the battery last Sunday, jumped it off no problems and took it for a 20 mile charge up run. Haven't really used at all since then and when I go to it today it doesn't start (just makes a clicking noise when turning over).

Charged up the battery and she fires first time. I'm wondering would the 20 mile run not have been enough or could the battery be a gonner. There is a good chance the battery is an old one. I understand the Bosch S5 is the battery to get.

Thanks, Gav.

Yes the S5 is the one to get.
Have a look on ECP as mine was only about £86 delivered.

20 miles isn't much really if the battery was that flat, especially if it is an older one which won't actually charge or hold a charge very well.

Have you checked the voltage when the engine is running?

If the battery is OEM it will have the month and year of manufacture stamped on one of the battery posts. They recommend that they are changed at around 6 years old. I changed mine for a Bosch S5, they can be had from ECP for about £85 with a discount code.
As mentioned above a 20 minute drive isn't really enough to fully charge the battery.
It's worth changing it for a new one for peace of mind, as X5's start to throw up random fault codes when the batteries are on their way out.
