insurance & tracker

My car doesn't have a tracker, so I have to insure it with Equity red star through A-plan. currently it is about 700 (over 5 NCP and I am pretty old :)). Will it worth to install a tracker?

Believe it or not, some insurance companies actually increase your premium with a tracker fitted.  Either way it will cost approx £500 or so to fit and & £200 a year to subscribe so I doubt the saving (if any) would be worth it.

Have you had your 'X' from new? if not, a tracker may well be fitted and the info hasn't been passed on and its lying dormant in your vehicle. many X5's had trackers fitted from new due to insurance requirements. So worth a check @ tracker.co.uk

Trackers no longer seem to be compulsory like they were a few years ago

I was with Privilege when I bought my X5. They insisted on a tracker and wouldn't cover the theft clause until fitted. Mmmm, leave it on my drive not covered for theft. Don't think so!!!  Went to AXA, No tracker required and about the same premium!  ::)

Well worth a try, you'll need to give them the full chassis no.. Other thing you could try is contacting the original supplying dealer  ;)

Very true, LV didn't ask for one when I had the V8. Of all the one's I sold, every one had a tracker bar 1 that was exported. This is going back around 10 years though.

How do you find out if it has a dormant tracker?

You have to search for the bugger!  >:(

Or call the most popular tracker companies and see if they had the car on their books in the past.

No tracker required when insuring through Admiral (or any of the brands they operate). Was with Direct Line with my E46, but told them to stick it when I bought the E53 as they insisted on a Tracker.

I would always start with the original supplying dealer to see it a tracker is installed. You'll need all the vehicle info to hand, but its worth a shot
