Sat Nav Points of Interest/Icons

Guys, finally got my Sat Nav working on my 04 3.0i after having to downgrade the firmware to v31 & then back upto v32, plus sourced a new maps disc after spilling RedX over the original one.  Anyway, I have seen various pics of people sat navs showing various icons on the maps screen, but mine doesnt seem to show them, that or I live in such a boring place, there are no points of interest.

Anyone else use the Sat Nav and has icons showing on the maps view, such as petrol stations, speed camera's, etc?

Have you switched them on via the menus?

If it isn't an OEM disc then all discussions are banned by the Mods......Forum Sticky.

I have OEM disc but it is 2004 (dont know if that makes a difference I just haven't got round to updating it yet from BMW

So 3 questions - can anyone give me an indication of what BMW will charge me to update to latest disc (I'm planning to drive through Spain France and Italy next year so hopefully latest disc has European Mapping) - I believe I have to hand over the old disc in return for new?

Second question - how do I switch on the menus referred to above (either in old version or new version )

Third question - what is V31 and V32 - hardware upgrades? can i change these myself? I suspect not?

BMW used to do a deal where you got the latest maps for a reduced price if you returned your existing OEM disc, not sure if the deal is still on.
V31 is the old firmware edition. v32.2 is the latest firmware version, you will need this to activate some of the new options on the ater discs like speed cams, areal view etc. this is from memory, as I now have an aftermarket headunit with igo8 primo 2 software.

If you have a Mk3 CD based system it will only be UK mapping Mk4 DVD based will have European maps.
I to have changed to a system with Primo mapping so easy as map upgrades are downloaded.

Only 1 category of POS will show at any 1 time. Set petrol stations and they show. Set hotels and they show but petrol stations dissappear. Now a £75 TomTom can have them all showing at the same time but it's just not integrated.

Car manufacturers really do need to wake up, just how can they justify £2k + for an integrated system when there are so many systems out there now that offer more functionality, and can be readilly integrated Dynavin, Hualigan, Andrive the list is growing.

The part ex system stopped some years back.  DVD's are about £200!!

Second question - how do I switch on the menus referred to above (either in old version or new version ) I think it's under one of the menus inside the Nav sub-menus where you can choose the POI' you want (Hotels, fuel stations etc).

Third question - what is V31 and V32 - hardware upgrades? can i change these myself? I suspect not? V31 and V32 are firmware upgrades on a CD and you can do it yourself in less than 5 mins

Just beware that travelling in certain European countries with a Sat Nav showing cameras or a radar detector will incur huge fines if not arrest.
Wasn't sure if you knew before you splashed out on anything.
