CD Autochanger Problem

Hi
So I bought my 2003 (E53) X5 (pre-facelift) and the bloke I bought it off said that the autochanger had stopped working and was showing "no disk".  "Youre welcome to keep them if you can get them out" he said.
I managed to open it up and dislodge a jammed cd. The casette ejected appropriately only to reveal an array of horrendous CDs of stomach-churningly poor quality. Nonetheless I left them in to see if I could get the thing working.
The CDs all registered on the display and the autochanger was able to access all of the disks without any jamming but unfortunately the only sound coming through the speakers was some very faint static during play!!!!!
ARRRRRGGGHHHH! I thought I had fixed it.  >:(

It is the original changer with the red sticker on the top.

Does anyone know of this problem or can anyone advise a solution?
I could bin it and install something else. My wife and I have iphone 5s.

Many thanks for any helpful advice

Connections to the 3 and 6-pin sound? Or do you have a coaxial type connection?

And do you get the same static sound for the radio or tape?

Thanks Sanj
From memory the connector is a funny wedge-shape.
Not co-ax.
Connector was blue I think.

Still weird about the connector though. What year is the car?

Good about other sources being ok - rules out the BM54 RCM module.

Bugger! Just as I posted - that's the 3-pin I was harping on about.

Now find the 6 pin. Two rows of 3 (squarish).

There are no other cables connected to the changer.
Should the 6 pin be connected or floating around somewhere in there?

Resolved!!
Hilarious!
Just found the 6-pin plug floating around.
Only the 3 pin was plugged in.
Plugged it in and hey ruddy presto!
Thanks for your guidance
