Angel Eye's

Hi wondering if someone maybe able to help? Just recently purchased myself a 2004 (pre facelift) 4.6IS Cabon Black Edition, really love the car but the light on it look shocking next to the lovely paint work!!!

The current setup is a factory Xenon which I intend replacing with something a little brighter and the side lights are just the reflector style with no Angel Eyes. I wanted the brighter Angel Eye's I have seen on HID Direct (link below), it says there only for vehicles with OEM Angel Eye's. So is this kit incompatible? Is there something else I can fit. Searched many of the topics already but to be honest got a little bit lost with what you can and can't do!!

Hi,

Congrats on the purchase!

The kit you are looking at is only compatible with OEM angels. The angels on OEM units are powered through bulbs such as the ones your looking at. After market kits are either LED or the more common CCFL. They are fairly inexpensive to buy.

The process in doing the above is to split the headlights which will be your biggest issue.
After 2002 BMW used a new glue to assemble their headlight. This meant that the units could no longer be pried apart by heat.

So if you do push forward with this then you will either need to buy 2002 and before units or use a dremel or something to cut the units open. It can and has been done, more recently by Dpbayly (search his posts).

He and I both went for the LED's fyi.

Good luck

Seeing as you have pre facelift factory Xenon's like what Ive recently fitted to mine to replace the factory Halogen headlights then you could do what I did to mine.

Hi,

I am having the exact same problem, my car looks clean all round but the lights are smokey looking and kind of lets the car down, i have been searching for a while and even bought a kit from amazon to polish up the lenses which worked great:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-Headlight-Re ... dlight+kit

Only problem is after a while they smoked back up. I then bought some angel rings only to find out that my headlights are sealed units so therefore I would have to go through all the work that dpbayly done, I am good at taking things apart but putting the back together is a no no.

I was just wondering have you seen any aftermarket headlights that you have liked and if so could you post a couple of links as this looks like my only option at present to get angels. But to be honest some of them I have seen look a little to aftermarket to be polite but here are a few, the ones I do like i only available in the states so the beam pattern is reversed meaning if i purchased them i would blind all on coming traffic.

Going to look at these at the weekend:

waiting for these to come back into stock;

would like these ones but they are american and only due to my car being black:

Let me know what you think of the above.

I like the look of all the eBay ones but I am not sure they will fit mine? All of them quote for non OEM Xenon models. Mine are Xenon just without the Angel Eyes.

Not sure how much you want to spend but I bought these headlights for my 4.6is haven't fitted them yet though. Going to try this weekend if I get a chance... If I do I will get some pictures up of them on the car. I've connected them to my jump pack and they are bloody bright!

Cheers

Hi Mate,

I clicked your link and have seen that these are from the states, was there an option for LHD and RHD, or are they LHD and you know how to mod them to RHD, Nice lights by the way.

Hi Mate,

I wondered the same thing so I asked the seller and he said there should be a switch on the back like the OEM headlights which switches it over to the opposite beam pattern. I haven't actually looked yet I was too busy trying to get them powered up lol I will take a look when I get home from work.

Cheers
James

No unfortunately not :-( I got half way through and then it started raining! So the front is covered over with tar-pooling now. I am going to hopefully finish it after work tomorrow so will get some pictures up once it's finished :-)

So I managed to finish these off Monday night. All I can say wow they're bloody bright angel eyes!!

Only annoying thing is I went for a quick drive and they both steamed up in exactly the same place. It was 7.5c out and all the cars had condensation on them around me so maybe it could be a one off? I did make sure I made it totally sealed when fitting the bulbs..... I suppose only time will tell!

Now for some pictures (Sorry they are not the best the iPhone had trouble picking up the LED angel eyes...

This is a close up of just angel eyes on (Try and ignore the condensation at the bottom :()

Image

Here is a shot with just the angel eyes on lol shows how bright they are! (The camera makes them look blue but they are pure white in colour.

Image

Heres a close up of the new 55w D2S 5000k Bulb they are a big improvement on the OEM 35w xenons and don't seem to blind anyone either which is great!  :)

Here's a picture showing

All the kits:
55w HID D2S 5000k dipped beam
70w HID H11 5000k High beam
70w HID 9005 5000k Fog lights

My poor old alternator lol :))

Let me know what you think!

Look really good, especially compared to the rubbish in mine!!!

Think I am going to have a go at doing the reburb and fitting Angel's to mine with the guide in this forum if I don't do a good enough job then I will be going for these without a doubt.
