X5 E53 2005 4.4i air suspension problem

Hi guys, I'm new to Xdrivers and hope you can help.

I have a 2005 X5 E53 4.4i with 53,000 miles on the clock and a very annoying suspension inactive warning every time I drive.

I have run a diagnostic check and error code 08 "Regulation time fault, raise" is shown and the car does look lower at the rear end when it isn't used for a few days.

The 30amp fuse blows on the air suspension very regularly and when I replace it the car raises up at the rear and everything is fine for a short while then it blows and the warning light returns.

I'm not sure if it needs a new air suspension compressor or could it be a combination of factors?

I hope someone can assist - please help..!!

Hi. One suspension air bag is leaking (80%), or rising sensor foulty (20%).

a leaking airbag wont blow the fuse tho, it would just drop overnight and run fine when running

Hi again, thanks for the feedback.

I've just replaced the 30amp fuse and been on a 20 mile run. The rear ride hight has remained a bit low and the new 30amp fuses hasn't blown this time.

I'm thinking it's a faulty compressor pump, perhaps in the electric motor turnings or a short in the wiring.

I think I will get it off the car over the Christmas recess and carry out some bench testing - wish me luck..!!

Kind regards and Merry Christmas

if you suspect you have a leak, get some really soapy water and a sponge and rub it all round airbags and pipework, iu just had to find one on the rrs and it turned out to be the brass fitting where the pipe goes into the top of the airbag, however this dropped the rear of the car everynight but never once blew a fuse or put the air suspension light on.

Leaky airbag or valve coupled to a worn pump is my prognosis. The pump motors are rugged units, most likely it's the piston ring worn -these are available for about £25 and will quite often give the pump a whole new lease of life as long as the barrel is not scored or worn too badly.
