Wheel balance would be my first thought, sounds like the weights have fallen off and the tyre is literally causing the wheel to bounce causing the heat build up. Have not heard of a tyre doing this for many years as tolerances on the weight have been reduced considerably.

Could be de lamination or low pressure if an RFT too.

Tyres normally only heat up if driven very hard, or if they're excessively low on pressure.

First thing I'd check is the pressure. Do the tyres have the letters RFT on them anywhere? It denotes runflat. Not everyone is aware they have them.

thanks for the replies... strange but garage has said the calliper was knackered and sticking causing the heat on tyre.. getting replaced under warranty.

You said in first post that brakes were checked and given the ok recently.

If they missed a sticking calliper then what else have they missed?!
