Aaargh, nail in tyre what are my options?

Post by keith333 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 7:50 pm

Found a nail in my offside rear tyre today, see pic below.  Tyre is one year old and 11,000 miles so around 6mm tread left in it.  Do I drive to a tyre place tomorrow and have them talk me into buying a new tyre?  Will they be able to repair it?  I don't think we've done many miles in it.

+1 on the repair.  Some 'mainstream' tyre places will tell you otherwise, but I had one fixed with no issues and it's still in use 3 years later.

It's repairable, no brainer. Don't settle for anything else (can be done for a tenner).

Did the tyre warning come up?

Check the pressures, do not run it 'flat' as that is what damage the sidewalls and why people don't like to repair them.

Other than that yes it can be repaired but you may have to go to a small independent instead of a mainstream dealer as mentioned above

Had one in virtually the same place the week after I picked the car up and turned down the BMW tyre insurance.

It was fixed next day.

....and lasted the length of the life of the tyre and is still going strong housing my mint. :P
