hi all,

i have been directed to this forum by a friend and was looking for some help please.

ive got a facelift 2004 x5, the car had been parked up for a few weeks as i was not well,

i had to jump start it, anyway drove it for a few days no problem with remote fob then

send sometimes it wouldnt lock and i had to push the fob together as it looked it had come loose but only a little.

car started fine with key and inside central locking button works fine.

phoned a locksmith to come out, he came and took my key and bought back another key and the remote worked the locks,

the key however come apart in my hand when trying to start the car as it was such a poor copy,  after that the remote will not lock or unlock the door,

the car still starts, i have tried to sync it using the guides on youtube but no luck.

the key guy thinks its a body control module but i told him i think its the key,

help would be greatful,

New keys are available from your local BMW dealer. As the key is programmed to your car via an chip inside it, they can order you one in , I think they come from Germany. You will need to take your registration document and a form of  ID into the dealer and a form of payment. I haven't ordered one for a few years but they are around the £100 mark each.
Once you have the key you will have to go through the procedure in the manual to activate the key to your vehicle, this is a simple job once you have the instructions.
Firstly you want to be certain it is the key that is at fault, as you don't want to spend £100 to find it wasn't the key in the first place
It might be an idea to re initiate your original key to see if you can get it to work the doors, even if you have to hold it together to prove its the key not the module
