4.8iS wont start

So cleverly I allowed my fuel to get low and car was parked on a hill, was driving perfectly last night, but will not start this morning! put fresh fuel in it but thinking that the hill is too severe as car is very high passenger side and low drivers side and that ive not put enough fuel in it ( 5 litres) as it just turns over. Now I may be being stupid, should I just get another 4 gallons into it before I start to worry?

Does it try to turnover or just click as I am suffering with an intermittent problem of not trying.
In my opinion, keep shoving it in till you get a level, i am a newbie myself but it would think the best info you need is where the pump suction pipework is located in the tank and that should give you an idea of if the hill is causing the problem by keeping the fuel away from the pick up pipe.

its turns over fine just doesn't catch. my techs at work say I need to put in at least 4 gallons as it has a saddle tank and anything less than that wont register. got a friend doing it for me this afternoon so hopefully its just that and not something more sinister!!!

does anyone know where the fuel pump relay is located in the 4.8's? the car is trying to start but to me it seems like its not getting fuel. the management light is not on so I think it has to be a fuel problem???

Years ago we used to spray easy start into the intake to see if it was a fuel starvation problem, if it tried to fire we would know that the spark was there but no fuel getting through. Have you checked too see if you have a spark?

NEED HELP  I have changed the fuse and the fuel pump relay this morning but my car is still not getting fuel up to the rail (checked by pressing the valve on fuel rail and its dry) so how can I test the fuel pump and the lift pump to see if they are at fault? Does anyone know if they are easy to replace? I have got my back seat out and have access to both pumps but just need some advise. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this!!!!

Older diesels don't know about modern ones, used to suffer if they were run dry and systems had to be bled once air was in the system.  I know yours is petrol but maybe the same is possible. Could you bleed the system to ensure petrol is in all the lines.

Iseem to recall another 4.8is owner having a similar non-fuelling problem some time ago - replaced the relay with a new one and all was well again, might be an option as it was a cheap enough thing to try?

Replaced the relay and the fuse next step is to make sure the pump is getting power, if it is then I have found the culprit!!!! If not then I am back to square 1 with a whole new headache!!!! no air /fuel coming from the schraeder valve and pulled the pipe from the pump and turned her over and no petrol came out the outlet so pretty sure it is the pump. Where is best to source a new in tank fuel pump?

With the saddle tank it can be a nightmare to get running again. Some cars need 20 litres to get it going again.
Remove the rear seat base and there should be 2 metal plates that can be removed to access the fuel pump/sender units. The ns one is just a transfer pump to pump across to the os. Be careful if you remove the units as have a link pipe between them if that comes off it can be a pita to refit.

It was the pump which had failed, I has bought a new 1 just in case so it was easy enough to strip sender unit and fit new pump, once that was done car fired up first time! :)
