NEED HELP I have changed the fuse and the fuel pump relay this morning but my car is still not getting fuel up to the rail (checked by pressing the valve on fuel rail and its dry) so how can I test the fuel pump and the lift pump to see if they are at fault? Does anyone know if they are easy to replace? I have got my back seat out and have access to both pumps but just need some advise. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this!!!!

Have you had a look at Realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your chassis number in and you can call up drawings that may be of help.
I have read in other threads that one of the pumps is easy the other not so, have you checked all fuses and relays front and rear?
Don't know if it will work but have you tried disconnecting the battery give it 30 mins and reconnect these cars do some weird stuff and a reset sometimes works. Do you have access to a code reader or someone local on here who might read the codes that will give some clues at least.
Someone with more knowledge/experience will be along soon I am sure, good luck

Thanks for that greydog had a computer on it but no faults stored Replaced the relay and the fuse next step is to make sure the pump is getting power, if it is then I have found the culprit!!!! If not then I am back to square 1 with a whole new headache!!!! no air /fuel coming from the schraeder valve and pulled the pipe from the pump and turned her over and no petrol came out the outlet so pretty sure it is the pump. Where is best to source a new in tank fuel pump? will try the battery disconnect as well anything is worth a go although to be fair it is fully charged

I just collected my car from service (BMW Specialist), while there I asked Andy if he had com across your problem. He said he had seen clogged fuel filters lots of relay failures but no pump failures but don't dismiss it he said a pump from BMW would be £200+ he thought.
He advised to check all the loom connections to the pump but thought if it was a pump failure you should have a fault code?
Fingers crossed for you

That's the X5 fixed! After much testing and pulling out of whats left of my hair I found that power was getting too the pump and the fuel filter was ok so went ahead and ordered a replacement pump from Dingbro in Glasgow. Stripped out the sender unit and removed old pump tested it on a 12v supply and got nothing so re fitted new pump to sender built car back up primed it a couple of times turned the key and she fired up like there had been nothing wrong!!! was thinking of doing a how-to in case anyone else has this problem. BMW wanted £365 for full sender and said they couldn't get pump alone but Dingbro Pierburg unit exactly the same as what I took out for £145 inc vat. Thanks anyone who gave me advise it is appreciated!
