Hello
Just buying a 2005 3.0TDi Sport. No CD changer but BMW spec says "Preparation, BMW 6-CD changer I-bus"
Does this mean I can simply plug in the appropriate CD changer as available on Ebay or am I likely to need something to fit it into the appropriate space in the boot.
Thanks for any advice
John

Others are more experienced than I am on this, but if I think back to when I got mine - you can either have the ipod set up (through various means) or the cd changer, but you cant chop and change between the two. so it it has been set up previously for ipod then the cd wont work (until you disconnect the ipod set up). Perhaps a previous owner set up ipod and tossed away the changer. if the spec is there then you should be able to get it going if you need to.

X5s from that time did not come with full ipod functionality unless you went down the Intravee or Dice route, which is the main reason so many Xes have noCD changer in the boot. The CD changer did not work with anIntravee, only a specific range of Alpine CD changers worked with the Intravee switch. The CD changers come up quite frequently on ebay - the wiring should all be there in the boot under the sat nav unit on the passenger side, behind the cover panel.

Welcome John,
You have the loom in the boot, look for it. It'll be wrapped up as a 3-pin and 6-pin set of connectors (2 of them). Connect a changer from eBay if you want CDs, but.... the Intravee is an iPod alternative to give you full iPod connectivity with this car. You will lose the changer function though as the same connections are needed for the new Intravee. Quick search and all will become clearer (I hope)!
Let us know if we can help further.

If the loom is the same ibus connector as E46 M3 then I have a Dice Silverline iPod/Aux connector which i will be selling.

Hello
Thanks for the replies. So a CD changer unit should just connect up and slot in? What I am trying to ask is this - is any other hardware required i.e a unit to secure it in place so it clicks in and stays put, or is that already built in?
Regards
John

You will need brackets but if the car did once have a CD changer there, the brackets should be there.

You should 2 small brackets on each side of the frame work where the changer slides into. Take these off and once the changer is in place slide them back on over the holes available. You should see the brakcets line up with the holes on the framework and changer, then here you screw and tighten into place.
