Had the X5 in with BMW Ipswich since Monday night.  Had a warning son the dash "Fuel Injectors" and obviously lost power.

Luckily for me its still under warranty.

What is actually the problem?  I’m curious.  Is that a large job?

Hi, I presume the warning you got was <Fuel Injection System> a drop in rail pressure could be your problem, as could a faulty sensor, first stop would be to get the fault codes read which should tell you what's wrong.

Has it been a while since your fuel filter was changed?

Depends on model, age, engine and usage.

I had to have 2 of my injectors overhauled as they were not holding pressure when trying to start.
They were passing sufficiently to drop the rail pressure to a level the thing wouldn't start until it cooled down a bit...

It's a 2006, 3.0 diesel.  Put it in last Monday. They still have it.  Needs two new injectors!  Awaiting parts from Germany.  Took them a few days to diagnose the problem.  Do have a courtesy car 14 plate 316i :) very comfy but it's seems to be an old mans car.

Apparently they have to run lots of tests to ensure the correct diagnose (obviously).  Just can't believe they would have had the car over a week.  I have been kept informed but don't understand the length required to fix it

Sometimes parts can take a while if coming from Germany.  5 days is the norm, but last year BMW moved their main parts site and it took months to get bits.  My new bonnet catch 'box' took 5 months.

Thats outrageous.  They did promise by the end of the week.  Need the tow bar for Friday!

BMW have informed me parts are in Germany, now taking courtesy car off me and giving me a hire car.  Said it could be a while.  They are looking after me but the supply chain is atrocious.

The comments I had over mine were that BMW Germany had misplaced what amounted to a 'train load' of parts.

There were people being loaned cars which then failed and there were no parts to repair them either.  :-[

My dealer had a number of BMW GB loaned cars in their lockup awaiting parts.  Very embarrassing, and it seems that the situation has barely improved a year later.  Not good!  I wonder if they used the same people who designed the Heathrow Terminal 5 mess!!
