Re: oil filter mod?
If I knew how then I'd put a link up from the FB group, but the guy reckons it stopped his start up rattle, just intrigued really as to how this might work.

Re: oil filter mod?
No it's not the pre oiler mod, it's all about the filter housing.

Re: oil filter mod?
I only ask as someone on the 4.6 facebook group has been talking about something they did to the filter housing to stop it draining back if stood for a while and stopping the rattle on initial start up.

Oil grade for higher mileage cars
Does anyone use a slightly different oil, ( viscosity ), from what is recommended for higher mileage X5's, and have you noticed any difference.

Finally fitted this today, not a bad job really, even with my shovel hands, but boy was it tight.

Re: Timing chain tensioner
It came in a sealed bag in a box, it's a febi version.
What actually stops them from being released, it just looks like a piston that is triggered by oil pressure.

Timing chain tensioner
I decided to order the timing chain bottom tensioner just as a precautionary thing, anyway, it came without the washer/gasket so I'll be ordering via bmw. I've read that these should come compressed and not to release them as you'll have a hard job fitting them, the one I've got is just in a plastic...

Re: Trans failsafe prog
Popped it into a local specialist this morning, would you believe it didn’t do it when I parked it in his compound.
Left it with him anyway just to check it over. Will update with his findings.

Trans failsafe prog
Got the dreaded trans failsafe prog coming up, car not used very much so thought it might have been a low battery, but after charging for a couple of days and reading 12.6v still the same.
I can clear it and drive up and down the road but as soon as I engage Park it comes back on, any pointers.

Re: Noise from engine
Just waiting for a price back from BMW through the forum, if not I'll buy a febi one from evil bay. I take it it's straight forward enough to do, basically remove old one and fit new one, no special procedures needed? I've seen that people suggest that you wait until the lights go out before startin...
