Passenger front door won't open from outside

After looking through a veiw posts this seems to be a common thing with the X5s, or even BMWs in total.

After getting the door card off and the carrier out at first i couldn't see where the problem was as everything loked fine, however only when i compared it to a picture of a carrier i found online, the wire (ball joint catch) on my carrier seems far strectch than a unused one and also i found this, a crack so looks a new carrier and door handle is required. The model is 2002 X5 3.0d.

Cheers for the reply SanJ...  It was only once I posted my post that i found this thread. 

After looking through it I noticed another problem with my door handle.  When I removed the handle it came out very easily, without hardly any turns basically.  Looking at your pics it seems the 2 notchs that fit and lock the handle on tothe door have been sheered off. 

Any ideas where to get a spare handle?  i was thinking local breakers yard.

Breakers and eBay is all I can think of.
