Sat Nav upgrade

Post by stevo6 » Sat Aug 02, 2014 10:07 pm

Hi there. New here, but long time X5 owner, and just changed from an E53 to E70.  I have hoped to upgrade the sat nav using a Rusty disk, as a I successfully did on the E53.  However I cannot get the system to recognise the new DVD - its saying "insert navigation DVD" when I put the new disk in.

Rusty has replied and said "laser must be getting too weak to read the new disk" and suggested cleaning the laser.  I've done this, but no effect - still no worky.

Anyone come across this problem??
Thanks

Not allowed to discuss non-OEM discs on here.....software piracy upsets the mods with good reason.  BMW can be a bit litigious... :(

What age is your E70?  They use a different Nav system which gets more complicated as the models get newer - you may either need a CCC or CIC type disc.  The CIC type iDrive has more buttons around the controller than the CCC type.

If you have the later CIC version iDrive then you need a licence key from BMW and the maps are on 3 DVDs.

Oh and  :hi: too.. :D

Not yet seen anyone on here reporting issues like yours.... :(

Common on the E53 Mk4 as they are getting older now.

It could be as rusty suggests, or a focus issue or it just does not like burned rather than pressed discs.  Some pickups are very sensitive to what media they are presented with to read.
