Alarm problems

Hi all,


Having problems with our alarm going off for no reason when the X5 is locked, sometimes it's as soon as I've locked it, sometimes it 5 hrs later. I have tried locking with the key, but still goes off. I have tried disconnecting the bonnet switch, but it still keeps going off

Has anyone got any others ideas what this could be or how to fit it?

Spiders walking around the interior sensor?  Don't laugh, it's a regular problem on house alarms too.

i believe that if you press the lock button on the key fob twice it is supposed to disable the interior sensors for when, say, you leave a pet in the car for a short while. you could try this to at least eliminate the interior sensors from being at fault.

I had a similar problem with a that a Thatcham cat 1 aftermarket alarm fitted to a Jap import, ( apparantly they don't fit car alarms to cars in Japan, as people don't steal cars !. Must be a Western thing )
The alarm used to go off randomly , took it back to the installer who did a test on the internal motion sensors and changed one as he said it was outside its parameters, causing it to be over sensitive. Problem never reoccurred . So as mentioned in the previos post, press the button twice to disable the sensors. This aso disables the tilt sensor, as when on ferries they ask you to press the button twice.
When you get back to the car decks you can hear how many cars havnt done that, as several alarms are sounding.

I had the same problem... it turned out to be the drivers door latch. It has a hall effect magnetic sensor that determines when your door is closed.  While the part was $160 it was a pretty quick and easy fix for DIY.

When I lock my car, I press and hold the lock button a second time to fold the mirrors in - so by doing this I am disabling the alarm sensors ergo if someone tries to steal my car, the alarm won't go off?

It disables the interior alarm.  Perimeter switches (doors/bonnet) will still work.  The Owners Manual will confirm as you have an added mirror fold on 2nd press, albeit you have to hold the button.  A short press might just disable as above.
