Rear axle bushes
Rear axle bushes
Guys need my rear axle bushes on lower suspension/wishbone changed
Quick question as suspension is air suspension would this cause any issues for a normal garage to change or is it same as changing any other bush
Also roughly what would be cost for both sides

Re: Rear axle bushes
Same as changing any other bush, but does make things easier if you release air out of the airbag suspension!
Releasing the air is easy and takes a few minutes to do!

Re: Rear axle bushes
The only issue with the air suspension is.....
the system is pressurised, and if the shock absorbers are removed and the wheels not on the ground, then there is a serious risk of injury & the air bags will probably be damaged.
The shock absorbers prevent the air suspension from over extending.
You can possibly jack the vehicle, remove the wheels..... and, before the shockers are removed, you need to disconnect the power cables to the suspension pump - under the spare wheel & ping the connections to the RED & BLUE pipes that go one to each side - making sure you note which one goes where....
The system will de-pressurise noisily for 10 seconds.... then you can unbolt what ever you want safely.
Many of the brass / steel air connectors screw into plastic parts, and need VERY gently handling and tightening.... but in theory you wont need to unscrew any air connections.

Re: Rear axle bushes
You can safely remove the connecting hose off the top of the air bag and it will release the air and give you plenty of movement to change bushes, balljoints, etc.
I've done it plenty and have the OE tool for doing the rear balljoints.
Is the £350 including the parts and which ones exactly?

If you replacing the rear susp bushes, no need to play about with the air suspension.
There are several How to's on here or the american site.

Re: Rear axle bushes
guys turned out that its was lower sway arm bushes that are shot
it looks like a right pain in back side to do as everything needs to be removed
the actually sway arm is £400 and only BMW available
the Indi has said they will push out vushes and put new ones is alongside changing ball joint on another arm (it doesnt need changing but guy said they tend to go)
he advised max would be £350 as they normally dont change the bushes how unit is changed
i think this is reasonable
