Sat Nav Updated today at the dealer
Sat Nav Updated today at the dealer
My E70 is a 2010 model, and the sat nav has never been updated since build, I've enquired a couple of time about the cost to upgrade and been put off by the near £200 price for the maps and the code and never a fan of less dubious sourced disks I've left it.
Well I was booked in today for the software update and I enquired again, as there are definitely some new roads that I travel on that the old system had me travelling across fields resulting in numerous requests for "U Turns"..
So guess my surprise when I was told it would be £35 for the code plus then either the download or the Thumb drive for @ £50.
Anyway £88 lighter and an hour later I now have 2015-2 Western Europe Premium Maps downloaded by a BMW dealer so no issues with warranty or worries of legitimacy.
Finally it seems BMW have realised that the likes of Tom Tom & Garmin, will offer full maps in the £35~£50 range, so £88 seemed a good deal to me.

I agree - good result. I did this about a year ago when BMW in Canada were charging $200 plus labour (!), but had it been available for this price I'd probably have done what you did. I did it myself via a non-BMW route - don't ask.

Thanks Peter.
I followed that x3 link and pulled down the 2015 maps. Quite timely as we're about to embark on a roadtrip to Lake Garda next week!
A question for those above, my nav is a DVD based Professional nav from 2008, I'm assuming I just burn the ISO's to disc and just insert into the NAV. No need for an FSC code, correct?

Re: Sat Nav Updated today at the dealer
If it's the CCC type idrive with very few buttons on the controller then it's a single DVD update with the disc staying in the drive. Only the later CIC version needs the FSC code as you update the built in hard drive.
You could have a CCC type iDrive in 2008, but you may have a later version. Some cars got them earlier than others depending upon the update cycles for the cars themselves.
Use of non-OEM discs as the map source can be very unreliable as the drive is sensitive to 'burned' rather than 'stamped' DVD physical discs.

Does the 2015 maps know the Channel Tunnel yet … my E53 did, my E70 thinks there is only a ferry ...

Re: Sat Nav Updated today at the dealer
May be my lack of understanding / expectation as to what the sat nav update would bring except for additional roads and up to date POI's - was surprised to find today that I now have 7 digit postcode entry......easily pleased I know!!
Re: Sat Nav Updated today at the dealer
The road data can be up to three years out of date! Down to the mapping suppliers not getting it updated!!

I was quoted (and paid) £122 for this. First and last time I do this at a dealer.
