Rear wiper won't turn off help!!!

Post by Richardcs » Tue Oct 06, 2015 11:32 pm

Hi

I'm needing help! I can't get the rear wiper to turn off on my e53 2003... No matter what position, the rear wiper keeps going... I have had to now pull the fuse.

This has resulted in the interior light staying on for several seconds after starting the ignition! Not a biggie and once the fuse is back in its sorted....

So back to the wiper.... Can anyone shed any light on why my rear wiper won't turn off? Many thanks for any help.

Usual culprit on wipers not parking is the "Park Position" sensing contacts...

These usually are on the gear wheel and are a spring contact running on a track on the gear.
Crud in the grease can cause a continual contact and therefore the wiper thinks it is not at park position and then will continue to run.

Another is the potential for the spring contacts to be worn and touching things they shouldn't

From memory you may be able to whip the cover off the gears and clean it and then inspect.
However you may need to remove it from the car first and, although relatively easy, is a bit of a hassle!
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Great thanks for this it's a good place to start! Essentially do you mean strip the wiper mechanism apart and clean it when you say gears? Thanks

Yup

There should be a cover over it.
Will be obvious when you get  to the motor
