Newbie: Stereo

OK, I realise there are other threads on this but i have a simple scenario and question.

I have a double DIN chinese android unit, lots of features but perhaps not the greatest sound quality.

My Factory unit has Sat nav etc unit no. 8378942 BUT the radio keeps going off, the sat nav is a bit pants and the sound quality is no better than the Chinese android. I'm not that bothered about originality and prefer to just swap it over and sell the changer, head unit & DSP amplifier. I'm happy enough to cut and adapt the dash to accept the double DIN unit, it doesn't look like I'm taking out anything serious.

My question is simple, can I just run the loudspeaker wires to the original speakers (incl SUb) and just put in a standard crossover to do the job the DSP did? The Chinese head unit gives around 40w per channel which is enough for most ears.

Most units suppliers can provide a loom that link to the Amp connector in the back (by the battery)
This then connects straight thru to the speakers.

So basically yes..

Thanks, however, I was thinking of by-passing the amp in the boot as there should be enough power in the head unit alone. The thought being I don't need the boot amp

I understood that's what you wanted, but all the speaker wires go to that amp, and that is where the loom would plug into, effectively you are replacing the Amp with your setup... not tapping into the amp.

got ya! I'dd have thought I still need crossovers

Built into the doors AFAIK, or one of the speaker units in the door at least.  The BMW amp wasn't that clever..

Ahhh ha, OK so it's not quite as complicated as I may have been dreading. I should be able to treat it as a normal car stereo. I replace the head unit and DSP with my Chinglish head unit and power amp to the loudspeakers? If there are already crossovers in the speakers, I needn't worry about substituting the work of the DSP.

This is all academic if I can't get the car battery to work.
