Widescreen Aspect ratio has changed itself.......

Post by CondorX5 » Sun Dec 06, 2015 2:20 pm

I'm puzzled.  My MKIV 16:9 Widescreen has suddenly decided to set itself to 4:3 instead and I cannot find a setting to change it- the screen settings in the config menu just do split ot full screen.

Anyone have any ideas what might have happened here and how I get it back to 16:9 ?  The latest software version is running and has been for ages.

Mine has been like this for ages now. It used to do it now and then but eventually return itself to normal. But this time it seems stuck on 4:3. I've had the head unit completely apart and the TV module out looking at all connections but nothing has brought it back to wide-screen.
Personally I think it's my battery which is down on voltage a bit causing the issue. But then, when the engine is running it should be OK. If you get to the cause let me know!

Is it worth trying the 20 minute power off reset?  BMW seem to use it as the first thing to try for pretty much everything else connected with electrical oddities.

getting to the battery to disconnect is such a fiddle on the e53, but its got to be worth a shot as my aux heater has stopped working as well.. :'(

Apparently the problem may be related to the tv module, I saw a thread on xoutpost about this, but my tv settings don't give an option to swop between 4:3 and 16:9.
I suspect the battery reset thing is what BMW will do as its what they always do, so will probably leave it to them as the x is due a service soon.  There is something else amiss I think as the software on screen seems to go into constant reboot mode at times although radio etc always seem to retain their function. Plus a lot of pixels are starting to go faulty so hopefully my good old extended warranty will be helpful again as all this old kit seems to cost crazy money from BMW!  Will update in a few weeks when its been in to the dealer.

Update- curiously spontaneously fixed itself........until the next time. The screen does frequently randomly reboot though, although this does not affect the function of the radio etc - just can't change anything till it stops rebooting!

mine also does the random reboot with blue screen and weird fonts. usually does it several times on longer journeys,
always comes back to normal though, apart from this now constant 4:3 screen  :'(

If anyone is familiar with Navcoder, IIRC you can change the aspect ratio and various other things there as well

I have a Resler somewhere as well as the bmw cable thing from ebay but haven't had a chance to spend some time messing about with either of them yet - only had them a few years now [emoji15][emoji15]
I get that reboot sequence frequently -dealer claims never heard of it never seen it ever and I must be mistaken.........of course, miraculously, when the dealer has it it never happens ( not that they would notice if it did!).  So frustrating. My screen is back to 16:9 for now but the rebooting randomly is in full swing .
