bmc panel filter
Has anyone fitted one of these to a pre facelift 3.0d x5? If so what was the outcome? did mpg go down? any notice in performance?

Moved now.
To the OP - I had one in my M, gave a bit more noise and I would guestimate about 1 - 2 mpg more.

I've fitted one when I serviced it and I am only getting 25mpg on a run

Re: bmc panel filter
In my opinion, which may not be correct, airflow into the engine via an aftermarket air filter won't greatly enhance your MPG or BHP.
Do you not think the highly paid boffins at BMW wouldn't have thought of that first, instead of some small aftermarket air filter company.
The stock air filter has a massive surface area, it's called a HEPA filter . ( high efficiency Particle Arrester.)
Diesel engines run at fairly low RPM so don't require massive amounts of air volume compared to a high RPM engine.
Also the engine management system is governed by mapping, it monitors the incoming air flow via the MAF sensors and governs the fuel mixture accordingly.
Alter the map instead of trying old school fixes that worked with carburettor'd cars of old.
Then again I might be talking Bo****ks

Thanks for your reply, I got given the air filter free when I bought some other parts for it, I just wondered if anyone else had fitted one and there results.
