Summer tyre poser

Post by RenoHuskerDu » Tue Mar 22, 2016 8:19 pm

Perhaps optimistically, but feeling a need for that after the bad news from Belgium this morning, I installed the summer tyres today. They came from the PO but appear to be genuine type Styling 63 V-Speiche wheels, with Atturo AZ800 rubber on them. See attached oooh, aaah pic of French afternoon 50°F sunshine.

Here's the poser:

They are staggered; 255/50-19 fronts, 285/45-19 rears.  These sizes appear on the German title (see pic below) so must be legit.  Handling is great, too.  But the door jamb sticker does not mention these sizes (see pic below).  I'm confused now.  Would BMW sell a car with tyre sizes that do not show up on the tyre advisory panel?  Really??

Yes those sizes are there.  You're saying that's all the information I get?  It still seems short.

I've never understood why they don't put PSI too.

You and me both, m8. I used to have to remember the bang path to send email.

So I need to extrapolate from that tyre chart. Can do.  I'm just surprised it's not more clearly laid out.  Thanks for setting me right.

PSI is on longer the standard in a 'metric' Europe.  Even though most (UK) forecourts still use it, we have to use metric for everything - except 'miles' of course.  :(

And of course it's a German car.

Multiply the 'bar' figure by 14 to convert to 'psi'.

Don't forget pints, not advisable to multiply by 14 though. Oh and size "9's" and Bra sizes are still in Fahrenheit and groats.

When I met the girl who became my wife, I remarked that she was slender. She had lived in England for a few years and so told me her weight in stones.  WTF, stones?  We yanks are blissfully unaware of stones.

Anyway, the exact equivalence is 15 psi per 1.03421 bar.
