The aged old question, What size wheel can the X5 go to?
I have a 2006 E53 3.0d Sport currently sitting on 19"'s what combo can I go to without killing my auto trans box etc?

The tyre size is the critical bit as that will also govern the rolling diameters which need to match.  I think the largest official rim sizes offered were 22".  If you go to 20" you will also need to add the wheel arch extension kit as the tread exceeds the wing aperture.

You might get some clues from somewhere like Alloywheelsdirect.  They list all the official and supported sizes together with offsets and the appropriate tyres and you can use that to inform your final decision making process.  :)
