Re: Computer software?
It's more of a case here that the dumber the software, the safer you'll be....
(Not meant to insult anyone)
There are packages available that are very 'powerful' and can give you a very quick and easy route to brick your car if you don't know what you're doing!!!!!
Scanner 1.4 appears to be a very stable, easy and safe option.
Will most probably do everything you want, however never had experience of it myself though so really cannot comment on its full functionality.
Just going on what I have read and researched.

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

I used the Scanner1.4.0 too when I had the E53. I've gone with the Carley app which I run on my IPad now. Covers more cars, but is more expensive aproximatly £85 with the Carley Gen 2 OBD2 wireless wifi adapter (£50), then you download the app (£35.)
Idiot proof ( suits me
