Spare wheel bay

Post by Richard137 » Sun May 08, 2016 6:25 pm

Good Evening you informed people of the X5 kind!
After a wonderful day of cleaning & polishing the car I decided on investigating the dark area called 'The Spare Wheel'.
I soon discovered that I had an excellent condition M & S Tyre with a sparkling alloy....Imagine my utter disappointment when I saw it was a 17", and I have 19"s fitted!
So my options are-
Change it for a 19" (Will a 19" fit in the area?)
Get rid of spare & carry a few Tyre in a Can?

and can anyone shed any light on any product (links??) that'll allow me to use the area as Storage? or other uses? (Dead bodies are in side compartments! Lol)
Thank you
2006 BMW E53 Titanium Silver (Facelift)
Remapped
LED Angel Eyes
LED Reverse Lights
B-Pillars Wrapped in Carbon Black
Rear Wiper E70 Conversion
Winter Wheels (18" 255/55).

------ To Do ------
CREE Driving light set.
Steering wheel to be Carbon Wrapped.
Running Boards to be polished.

Normal, they all have the 17" wheel, the profile is larger to match the rolling circumference
. (4.6 and 4.8s have 18" spares, so to clear the larger brakes )

You will have a 'staggered' profile on the car if it has 19", so which corner would you be able to use it with?  BMW therefore supplied a 17" with the correct profile for any corner being fitted.  The 19" rear is too wide to go in the black hole anyway.

I guess the spare is there really to help you get mobile but to get the correct tyre fixed or replaced asap.

Spare is also speed restricted.  50mph max.

I also have a new 17" spare but there is no speed restriction sticker on it in the way that space-saver wheels do. The handbook only specifies the 50mph limit for a 'compact wheel'

It applies whenever you fit a wheel that is a different size to those on the same axle.  The 'spare' is a standard road wheel on the E53, but at 17" is a different size so the 50mph/80kph rule must be followed.
