Daft Question

Post by ianst0028 » Thu May 12, 2016 11:26 am

is the seat-belt warning light supposed to flash or stay on until you actually put your belt on ??

mine does neither .... it comes on when you turn on the ignition for about 5 seconds then goes off

never noticed tbh, think mine does the same. Think there is some sort of time delay built in

If you drive off without a seatbelt on you get an audible reminder. The light you see when you switch the ignition on is just part of the testing process. If all is well the light goes off. If it stays on, or it comes on at any other point, you have a problem.

Seat belt warning can be coded out (and hence back in)
Perhaps someone has turned it off!!

Usually kicks in after 10mph (ish) and after you have covered a short distance

If you manage Edinburgh to Bristol with no seat belt or warning then maybe it isnt right!!!
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Try testing it with an unbelted passenger, both in the front and in a rear seat - driving on a private road, of course. Sounds like Steamyrotter may be correct, but it's worth a try.
