Towing Mirrors.

Post by Barry-C » Sat Feb 14, 2015 6:33 pm

Has any body found any caravan towing mirrors that fit the F15 X5  The ones that I have used for years don't fit, the glass is too close to the mirror housing, and the edge of the housing has got a sharp chamfer up to the glass.  I have checked with BMW, they do a mirror for the F15, but they want £129.00 EACH for them, hence I am looking for alternatives.

Hi I have been using the millenco aero 2 mirrors, they are fine but you need to fit the clips first then thread the bar through.

I over tightened one side and cracked the mirror case I have since removed the mirror cap and fitted a strengthening bar under the edge of the mirror on both sides and all is well.

I tried loads of different mirrors at the caravan dealers and they where the only ones that fit and fit top side only

I purchased a pair of genuine BMW  F15 X5 mirrors from Cotswold  BMW,  Gloucester. I was still unhappy with the way that they fitted, clamped to the lower edge of the mirror housing, so I have added the rubber straps from my old towing mirrors which makes the fitting much more secure. these straps pull the mirror onto the mirror housing, the free end being anchored with a small rod that engages under the clamping screw heads.

Looks like they don't sell the BMW mirrors anymore can't find any one who stocks the product code and the dealers can't find them on the system anymore.

Had a quick check in Realoem and there is certainly nothing showing on the latest database, unless it has been put somewhere very obscure.

Hi the bars are made from the locking pins from an old set of big foot caravan they fit perfectly under the lip at the top of the mirror with just a slight trimming

My mirrors came from BMW Gloucester and were £120.00 ish, very well made but over priced and not worth the money, but they fit.  To prevent possible loss I have fitted the rubber strap that was on my previous mirrors, that now  hooks over the top of the mirror housing, and locates with a small bar over the fixing clamp screws.
