Had to happen sometime .........

Post by CondorX5 » Wed Aug 10, 2016 10:21 pm

Will take delivery of this 2012 E70 next week.........

will post spec and more pics later.......

My beloved 4.8is is staying at home, partner wants the venerable old machine and has sacrificed the Renault Kangoo in order to make room for 2 X5s.

Now need to search for winter wheels while its still hot enough for people not to want them!

Hi Condor

Congrats on your new E70, I'm sure you won't want to go back to the E53 after driving the newer car, although you do have that option.

It looks good in the white with the black wheels  :)

Ps the suspension for the e53 is still for sale should you need it. :))

Hi Condor

It may be worth considering these ones that Sid 10 has for sale they can always be painted black

Congratulations.

No idea whats available relative to tyre size bit maybe an all season tyre choice could make sense, especially if the E53 still has a winter set to hand.

Very nice.  And yes you're right, it did have to happen eventually as your beloved V8 was beginning to show retirement was nearing....

I use a set of 19" staggered alloys in Style 258 as the winter set on the X6.  Shod with Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow RFT and '*' marked (to stick within the BMW Extended warranty conditions).

255/50R19 107V front, 285/45R19 111V rear if that helps.

That's handy info Richard, thanks.  Do E71 wheels fit the E70?  Also, would a non-staggered set of 18"s in style 209 be suitable?  Or perhaps style 213 19" staggered?      I presume I would need to stick to runflats though, due to the warranty and extended warranty - I intend to keep the warranty going as with the 4.8is, its paid for itself over and again - the old gal is in the dealership at the moment getting a brand new BM54 radio unit and DSP amp transplant as one of the channels went faulty - its taken them over 2 weeks to "diagnose" this in total, they are really just a bunch of parts fitters these days, not much sense involved!  130k miles and counting, but will have a much less stressful semi-retirement as partner does very low mileage, really -will hook it up to a CTEK to avoid battery issues.

AW8 - the 4.8 spends most of its life on its winters, to be honest, as I have generally been too busy to change and then its time to change back anyway!  I *think* there are warranty issues about staying on the runflats, like Richard says - although I would prefer a set on non-runflats for winter at least, I must say.

Thanks for the good wishes all, appreciated. I wanted an F15, but this seemed better value right now.  There was a 50i I really liked, coming from the 4.8,  but it had sold by the time I phoned the dealer -it was also £10k more expensive and uses a massive amount more fuel!  There were a couple more options I would have liked, but the hunt could have gone on for ages and the old wheezy 4.8 might have developed more problems and pushed me to choose something even less well specced than this lovely looking motor. The NI dealers did a very nice personalised video for me and everything was pretty slick and organised.

This is an AUC from a main dealer in NI, our local shower, only 14 miles up the road,  didn't bother to call me back about cars I enquired about. Funnily enough, the 4.8 had been supplied by the same NI dealer new 12 years ago.

No the E71 wheels don't fit without spigot rings (special rear axle fitted to X6 & X5M series only).  SID10 was offering a winter set on here for sale.

Have a look at somewhere like alloywheelsdirect who list all of the official wheels in all the sizes offered.  Then go elsewhere to get em cheaper as I think they only do about 10% off OEM but you can buy with or without tyres. :)
