Post by X5 white » Sat Sep 24, 2016 10:50 am

Hi I seem to have a problem of having to fit a headunit etc in my ex police car BMW X5 E53. .  I went to local breakers and I was told I can not get a system to fit in this due to wiring system has changed this could have been done by poilce having there system ?

Please if anyone help me out on this one ? Would really appreciate it.

I would say that's the loom for the non nav system.
Known as the business system of either cassette or single cd unit and the MID

From that bit you could fit practically any after market unit as long as you have the loom adaptor to convert to the standard DIN connections.

TBH they have cut out the supporting structure for the standard equipment so it wouldn't fit properly now.
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

looking at your pictures your going to struggle to fit an original head unit because Mr plod's technicians have hacked the original plastic cage/supports

your going to have to forget the CD changer because as far as i'm aware there isn't an after market head unit that will talk to the original BMW changer

look at xtrons dynavin enron for replacement head units

it doesnt look like they've changed the wiring for the car so that bit is ok
they have hacked out the plastic support for the original radio so if the original changer is still in the back it's pretty useless

you can get an aftermarket head-unit with a changer but i'd not bother with a replacement (statistically changers have the same discs in them for over 15 months)

if you google dynavin (expensive but amazing) or xtrons (cheap and cheerful) they both do a direct plug in replacement for the hole in your dash
you wont need to change any wiring both will just plug into your existing wiring

http://www.dynavin.com/products/n6_e53.php

http://xtrons.co.uk/pf7153bs-7-hd-digit ... 53-x5.html

i've just thrown an xtrons one into mine that i bought cheap used from ebay
the only thing i would say is that i had to get the dremmel out to curve the corners to fit properly

as soon as funds allow i'll put a dynavin in

I agree, you can see where the shelf has been cut out, so no going back. The third wire is the Fakra aerial adapter.
Next up ( white connector was for the MID unit, large one is the quadlock for the radio/ tape player.
Chinese units come with 2 loom adaptors to suit facelift or pre facelift cars, the supplied canbus unit then plugs in the loom, plug in the areal and away you go, my brackets were a far as they are for the E39 I think. Just try dropping the unit in without and see how it fits first. You may be surprised how secure it feels
I had a Dynavin in mine but was the older D99 win version not android, radio sound was poor.

I also have a unit exactly like the xtron one but is by eonon. The unit itself is good for the money. It I have a problem with the radio reception? Can anyone advise if they have had the same and how they fixed it? Also waiting for funds to upgrade to a dynavin! TIA!

If one of these aftermarket units are installed does that do away with the bm54? Mine is acting up so this may be an option.

Yes
but the bluetooth on the xtrons is not the greatest for calls ...... seems pretty good for streaming music though
